ABOUT

DR. BARBARA (BIBI) ROMANOVA

Hello and welcome - I’m Dr. Bibi (she/her/hers)! I’m so glad you’re here.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who provides psychological services to parents/caregivers, teens, and young adults across the state of Texas. My clinical background includes providing evidence-informed individual, family, milieu, crisis intervention, assessment, and group therapy services across a variety of settings (e.g., residential treatment center, community mental health clinic, outpatient child advocacy center, juvenile residential and detention facilities).

These experiences have allowed me to work with a diverse array of youth and families presenting with a variety of concerns including severe mental illness, externalizing and internalizing disorders, problematic sexual behaviors, neurodevelopmental disorders, substance use disorders, and trauma and stressor-related disorders.

Prior to my doctoral studies, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Florida. I then went on to earn my Masters Degree, followed by my Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology at Loyola University Maryland. I completed my APA-approved pre-doctoral internship at the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department, where I had the privilege of also completing my post-doctoral training year.

My overall approach to ensuring a safe and collaborative therapy environment rests in my warm and compassionate presence. My main goal is to create an environment in which I can help you feel safe enough to delve deeper into whatever it is that has brought you to therapy.

I am particularly passionate about working with teens and young adults who are working towards healing from experiencing traumatic stress. Additionally, I enjoy working with parents who are looking for guidance related to: navigating parent-child relationships, parenting skills, improving communication skills, and struggling with the stress of childrearing.

I approach therapy from a systems-oriented, relational, person-centered framework. I integrate cognitive/behavioral evidenced-based methodologies (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy [CBT], Acceptance and Commitment Therapy [ACT], Dialectical Behavior Therapy [DBT], Motivational Interviewing [MI]) into the work to ensure that your goals are met. I prioritize taking a collaborative approach to my work with clients, from the beginning to the end of the therapy process. My therapeutic approach is also LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally conscious.

In a broader sense, I approach my work with clients through a strengths-based lens. I will help you draw upon your resiliency factors as a springboard for enacting therapeutic change. I also employ a trauma-informed lens, viewing attachment (and the healing of disrupted attachment patterns) as an essential focus of my work with clients. I am attentive to meeting the client where they are at, and am eager to explore whatever treatment approaches/modalities the client is interested in.
